The Resin and Wool Carder Bees (Anthidiini) of Europe and Western Turkey (in englisch)

Identification - Distribution - Biology

Author: Max Kasparek

2. edition 2023, 292 p., Hardcover, Format: 17,7 x 24,6 cm

This book is the first to provide a comprehensive overview of all 87 species of non-parasitic wool carder and resin bees of the tribe Anthidiini occurring in Europe and western Turkey. Morphology and colour pattern are described for all species, as well as floral relationships and distribution. Distribution maps are provided for all species. The descriptions are supported by 618 colour photographs of general appearance and body details important for identification. The identification key is illustrated with more than 150 line drawings, so that even less experienced bee identifiers are able to identify wool carder and resin bees down to species level.

Bees of Europe - Hymenoptera of Europe • 1

Authors: Denis Michez, Pierre Rasmont, Michaël Terzo, Nicolas J. Vereecken

This guide is the first volume of a series on Hymenoptera of Europe. In its first part a general presentation is given on their morphology, ecology, evolution and methods for establishing a collection of specimens. We also propose a key for the identification of all superfamilies recorded on the European continent.

The guide then develops a comprehensive review of knowledge on wild bees from Europe and neighbouring regions, taking the latest scientific advances into account. This diversity is divided into more than 2000 species distributed in 77 genera throughout the territory covered.

The book deals with the biology, morphology, ecology and conservation of European wild bees. It offers the first illustrated identification key for the 77 genera, as well as an exhaustive inventory of species and a complete description of representative examples of wild bees within each genus (morphology, ecology, distribution).

Bombyliidae - Bee Flies of Switzerland

by Hermann Blöchlinger

in german & french

Bee flies are a group of large, conspicuous flies, most of which parasitize wild bees.

One of the most species-rich families of Diptera in the world, the woolly Bee Flies are notable for their characteristic hovering flight and their often furry appearance. Determining them is not always easy, especially since up to now there has been a lack of current identification literature for Central Europe.

This work closes this gap with a detailed identification key at genus and species level, a checklist (classification and nomenclature of species) and species texts for all species occurring in Switzerland with information on characteristics, pupa/exuvia, habitat and biology.

The texts - with the exception of the German species descriptions - are written in German and French.

Hardcover, 168 pages.

Bees of Switzerland, Apidae2

by Felix Amiet, Andreas Müller & Rainer Neumeyer

in german & french

The revised edition of the second part of the 6-volume work on identifying wild bees in Switzerland (Apidae 2, Fauna Helvetica 4) deals in detail with the genera Colletes, Dufourea, Hylaeus, Nomia, Nomioides, Rhophitoides, Rophites, Sphecodes and Systropha. In German and French the most important distinguishing features, the taxonomy, information about the lifestyle of the individual species. The heart of the book are the very good and richly illustrated identification keys for the species in Switzerland and neighboring regions.

The species texts, which are only written in German, provide half a page with descriptions of the females and males, provide information on the geographical distribution and altitude distribution, the flight period, food plants and the species-specific cuckoo bees. There are precise Swiss distribution maps for each species.
