Bombyliidae - Bee Flies of Switzerland

by Hermann Blöchlinger

in german & french

Bee flies are a group of large, conspicuous flies, most of which parasitize wild bees.

One of the most species-rich families of Diptera in the world, the woolly Bee Flies are notable for their characteristic hovering flight and their often furry appearance. Determining them is not always easy, especially since up to now there has been a lack of current identification literature for Central Europe.

This work closes this gap with a detailed identification key at genus and species level, a checklist (classification and nomenclature of species) and species texts for all species occurring in Switzerland with information on characteristics, pupa/exuvia, habitat and biology.

The texts - with the exception of the German species descriptions - are written in German and French.

Hardcover, 168 pages.
